TEACHER: Gloria Marina Ramírez

Gloria has participated in Hope for Humanity’s literacy program during the last four years. A high school graduate, she makes her livelihood selling beauty products door to door and from her house. She feels that the need for literacy is so pressing that she must dedicate her time to teach others. She teaches four students that meet at her house on a regular basis and three more that she teaches at their places of work or their homes.
“Sometimes you get disheartened and decide you don’t want to keep teaching, but the people are so nice to you and then you remember the good feeling and your desire to help them. Some of them work, and they leave their jobs and come to learn something that they haven’t had the chance to learn by going to school. So that’s what motivates me and gives me the strength to carry on.”—Gloria Ramírez
